Beginner to Intermediate Level:

In this workshop students will learn step by step how to create harmonious landscape paintings through the use of a limited palette both in the studio (Day 1) and outdoors“en plein air” in and around the beautiful Carmel area (Days 2 and 3). Day 1 will prepare students for working outdoors… lectures, demonstrations and exercises will include:

-Color:  Learn to mix a full range of colors from two different limited palettes and how to use color to create

   harmonious paintings

-Value:   Learn to see and accurately portray values in landscape painting

-Composition:   Learn to design and edit a scene to make more effective and pleasing compositions

-Simplifying:  Learn how to block in a painting using simple abstract shapes, then develop your painting from this basic

   beginning

-Plein Air Painting versus Painting from Photographs in the Studio:  what is the difference and why plein air painting

   can make such a difference in your studio work.

-Tips for Plein Air Painting:  From equipment to painting quickly and accurately, you will learn from Debra’s 15+ years of

   plein air experience.

Days 2 and 3 will begin with a brief lecture/plein air demo on location, followed by individual painting time, plus one-on-one instructi

on and guidance to increase your confidence and encourage your individual growth.  We will end each day with group critiques and Q&A/discussion sessions. Portable easels will be required.
