This piece was painted "en plein air" (on location) north of Phoenix, Arizona. The saguaro cactus surrounded us and this small scrubby tree stretched out across the trail in front of us...almost as if protecting the trail. A couple of wild burros wandered by as my friend and I were painting, not seeming to mind at all that they were there.
