This piece was painted on Deer Island, New Brunswick, Canada. I loved the challenge of this unusual composition. The beached boat, the fishing shacks, the pile of buoys and ropes on the dock, the pier going off in the background with another boat docked alongside...it was a lot of fun to paint. The clouds were building as I started and as I finished, there were moments where the boat was lit up by the sun yet the rest of the scene was shadowed by the clouds. The water went from brilliant blue to steely gray. I decided to capture one of those dramatic moments where the boat was illuminated against the rest of the scene.
